Naijacloud vs Hostinger: one platform, in Naira, in Nigeria
Both take your Git repo and give you a running app. Only one of them runs it in Port Harcourt, bills you in ₦, and ships the database, object storage, transactional email and domain registration in the same product. Here is the feature-by-feature read, including the rows Hostinger wins.
Hostinger sells you a virtual machine, cheaply, and Naijacloud sells you a platform. Per gigabyte of RAM Hostinger is several times cheaper than we are and we are not going to pretend otherwise — a KVM 4 is 16 GB for about $13 a month on a long term. What you do not get is a build pipeline, managed databases with restore, an email API, or anybody else awake when it breaks. And there is one thing worth reading before you buy: we measured Hostinger’s network from Nigeria, and the result is the most surprising row on this page.
Choose Naijacloud when
You would rather ship than administer — Nobody on the team wants to be the person who owns kernel updates, TLS renewal and the 3am restart. A managed platform is that trade, and it is the whole trade.
Your users are in Nigeria — In-country compute, database and storage — and, as the row below sets out, a network path from Nigerian ISPs we have actually measured.
You want the database, the bucket, the email and the domain on one invoice — In Naira, from a prepaid balance, metered hourly. On a VPS each of those is either software you operate or a separate vendor in dollars.
Choose Hostinger when
You want the most RAM per Naira and you know what to do with it — A 16 GB KVM 4 at about $13 a month on a long term is cheaper per gigabyte than any managed platform, ours included. If your constraint is memory and your team can run a box, this is the honest answer.
You need root, arbitrary ports, or software we do not run — A VPS runs anything. We run web services, cron jobs, static sites and six managed engines, and nothing else.
You are hosting something that is not an application — A media server, a game server, a VPN, a mail relay — all normal things to put on a VPS and none of them things this platform is for.
Things you get here that Hostinger does not offer at all
Not cheaper versions of the same feature — capabilities that are simply not on the other platform, so today they are a second vendor, a second bill and a second support queue.
Nobody hands you a root password
Connect a repo and the platform detects the stack, builds an image, ships it, routes it and renews HTTPS. On a Hostinger VPS all of that is yours — Docker, a reverse proxy, certbot, a deploy script and the cron job that renews it.
Managed databases with scheduled backups and restore
Six engines, a retention schedule you pick, restore into a new instance and a SQL editor in the browser. On a VPS a database is a process you installed, and the backup is a cron job you wrote and have never tested.
A transactional email API under your own DKIM
Naijamail signs with your own key and ships SDKs for five languages. Hostinger sells mailbox hosting, which is a different product — there is no sending API, and an SMTP server you stand up on a fresh VPS IP starts life in the spam folder.
S3-compatible object storage
Buckets with versioning, lifecycle rules and CORS, free inside the region. A VPS has a disk; object storage is MinIO you install, secure, back up and upgrade.

Key differences
The network measurement, in full
On 2026-08-25 we tested from Port Harcourt on MTN, and repeated it on Starlink. Controls from the same connection in the same minute — a Nigerian Layer3 host, Hetzner in Germany, InterServer in the US, and 8.8.8.8 — all answered. So this is not the local link and not the ISP filtering outbound.
Four Hostinger IPs we pay for timed out on every port tested, with no RST and no ICMP unreachable: a silent drop rather than a closed port. The same ports answered in 19–180 ms from Germany, Finland, Israel, Moldova, Slovenia, Russia, Canada, Hong Kong, Bulgaria and Ukraine. A traceroute from Nigeria delivered packets to Cogent’s Manchester edge and died there — transit hands them over and the far side drops them. To be fair to Hostinger: the boxes are healthy, and putting Cloudflare in front of one fixes it completely, because the proxy reaches the origin from a network that is not filtered. We know because that is exactly how we run ours.
What you are actually buying
A platform: build, deploy, route, renew, back up, meter. The unit of work is a service, and the things around it — database, bucket, email, domain — are services too. You give up root and arbitrary software in exchange for not owning any of that.
A machine. Everything above the kernel is a decision you make and maintain, which is total freedom and a standing obligation. Plenty of teams should take that deal — it is the cheapest compute on this page by a wide margin — and plenty of teams take it and quietly stop patching six months later.
We are Hostinger customers
Two of our European nodes are Hostinger KVM boxes, and one is moving off before the term lapses. This page is not written from the outside, which is also why we could measure the network from both ends.
That is the fairest thing we can say about the hardware: it works, it is fast, and the price is real. The reservations on this page are about what a VPS is, one routing problem we can document, and a renewal price that is roughly double the advertised one.

Note also that the advertised rate requires a multi-year term paid up front and roughly doubles at renewal.
When a move is worth scoping
Migrations cost time. If two or more of these keep coming up, the move solves a constraint you already have.
Nobody on the team wants to own kernel updates and certificate renewal any more.
The backup cron on the VPS has never been restored from, and nobody wants to find out this way.
You are on a Hostinger IP and Nigerian users report the site is unreachable while it looks fine to you.

We cannot say what the intent is, only what we measured. On 2026-08-25 from Port Harcourt, on MTN and on Starlink, four Hostinger IPs we own dropped TCP silently on every port we tried, while controls to Nigeria, Germany and the US from the same connection at the same minute were fine and a traceroute died at Cogent’s Manchester edge. The practical version: a bare Hostinger IP may be unreachable for your Nigerian users, and putting it behind Cloudflare fixes it.
Because the gigabyte is not what you are short of. The price difference buys the build pipeline, managed databases with restore, object storage, an email API with your own DKIM, HTTPS that renews itself, and somebody else patching the host. If your team is happy owning all of that, a VPS is the cheaper answer and we would rather you knew that from our own page.
Yes, and it is a sensible middle. A common split is to leave the VPS doing what only a VPS can do and move the database, object storage and transactional email onto managed services, so the box stops being the only copy of anything important.
Point a service at the repo and let the builder detect the stack — no Dockerfile needed unless you want one. Dump the database with pg_dump or mysqldump and restore into a managed instance over its TLS external endpoint, then move DNS. The part people forget is the cron jobs; those become scheduled services here rather than crontab lines.
